Conversations with my Host Sister

Johanna: When do you leave in August?
Me: What is the question? August?
J: You. Go. August.
Me: Yes I understand, what is the question?
J: When do you go to the United States? What number?
M: OH! 14!
J: 14? My birthday is on the 6th.
M: Ohh good.
J: My parents are giving me presents. Will you be here for my birthday or out with friends?
M: I'll be here!
J: Ahhh good! Do you do presents in the United States?
M: Yes... 
J: What I really want is a notebook (macbook).
M: Ohhhh
J: Are they expensive in your country?
M: Yes.
J: Oh. Well they're not expensive here.
M: Yeah?
J: Yeah. They're really cheap. But I don't have one. So I want one.


(Now I'm working on a gift idea that's under $10, aka nothing at all to do with said macbook. Hope she isn't disappointed.)


(Also, I had a long but great weekend in La Serena, I hope to write about it tomorrow.)
