Sorry I'm neglecting this. As the thrill of being in a new country wears off, and a duller but more comfortable period of organization and adjustment sets in, there is just a little less to write about. What happened lately. Well on Saturday we went to the Ruca Mapuche on the south end of Santiago. The Mapuche are the indigenous peoples here, highly oppressed and very poor (it's not too different from the story of the Native Americans in the US). We did some Mapuche eaating, some Mapuche dancing, and some Mapuche ceremonying. It was interesting, but the language barrier and constant translation made the information transfer a bit cumbersome.
Also, so you know how I like to talk about food here? The theme of this paragraph: avocados. The palta are a big deal in Chile. I've been a big guac fan for years, but avocados themselves never really interested me. The other day I got half an avocado with my salted celery (celery should never be salted). I pulled out my grilled chicken (and gave my mashed potatoes away SORRY WORLD) and started eating it with the avocado and it was kind of great. So... congrats to me, I'm a budding avocado fan. We went to have (AMAZING) Mexican food last night for one of the girls' birthdays, and I got my guac fix. Unfortunately, I have not had any avocados today.
